MobLand Finally Confronts Its Biggest Problem With Tom Hardy’s Character

Tom Hardy’s Harry Da Souza is positioned as the central figure in Paramount+’s crime drama MobLand, a loyal enforcer in the Harrigan empire. Though undeniably competent and trusted—especially by Pierce Brosnan’s Conrad Harrigan—Harry’s personal life tells a much different story. While his loyalty to the Harrigans is unshakable, his own household is crumbling, and the show has finally begun to address it.

Harry’s long-standing ties to the Harrigans trace back decades, including a tight bond with Kevin Harrigan, forged in their teenage years. Conrad Harrigan clearly places more trust in Harry than in his own sons, Kevin and Brendan. Yet, the same loyalty and presence Harry offers the crime family is absent at home. When MobLand begins, his marriage to Jan (Joanne Froggatt) is already on the brink, with her pursuing couples therapy that Harry consistently avoids. His criminal commitments become the wedge driving his family further apart—an issue the series had, until recently, left largely unexplored.
Jan Staying With Harry Is Becoming Increasingly Unbelievable

From the first episode, Jan has made her dissatisfaction with Harry’s dangerous affiliations known. That discontent is what made her such an easy mark for Alice (Emily Barber), DS Fisk’s embedded informant. Still, Jan and her daughter Gina have enjoyed a comfortable lifestyle funded by Harry’s work. She acknowledges that Harry is a kind and caring presence—when he’s around. After more than 15 years together, her tolerance for his criminal ties was considerable… until now.

In episode 6, Jan’s worst fears come to life. After the murder of Vron Stevenson, the Da Souza family is whisked away to the Cotswolds for their protection. Harry’s world has officially endangered Jan and Gina’s lives. Worse, the so-called safe house belongs to an unstable elderly gangster who was previously inappropriate with 16-year-old Gina. This moment marks a turning point that makes it harder than ever to believe Jan would remain in this life with Harry.
A Subtle Moment Suggests Jan Is Giving Up on Harry

The tension hits a boiling point in episode 6. Jan is fed up—with Harry missing therapy, being forced onto a houseboat owned by one of his shady “friends,” and being stalked by Conrad Harrigan in her own home. The moment Harry takes Jan and Gina into Conrad’s lair for their “protection,” it becomes clear the marriage may not survive.

Then comes the emotional gut punch. After a disturbing exchange with Conrad, a shaken Gina asks her mother a direct question: does she still love her father? Jan hesitates. The pause is long, loaded, and telling. Instead of saying yes, Jan embraces her daughter and simply says, “Don’t be silly.” Her inability to affirm her love for Harry to their child speaks volumes—it’s the most explicit sign yet that Jan is emotionally done.
Is There Any Hope Left for Jan and Harry?

Realistically, there’s little room for repair. Harry is now deeply entrenched in a bloody gang war, and any attempt to salvage his marriage would require him to fully cut ties with the Harrigans—something he’s shown no signs of doing. Gina herself suggests that they run away as a family, but that idea seems more like a fantasy than a plan. As long as Conrad has a hold on Harry, his family will always come second.
With upcoming episodes promising even more violence and fallout, MobLand seems to be steering Harry and Jan toward a painful, inevitable separation. Whether Harry survives the gang war is one thing—but whether his marriage survives him may already be answered.
